A: No! The 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is for UNCONTROLLED hazardous waste sites only!
Q: What HAZWOPER certification is required for general industry?
A: For industries that generate, store, or treat hazardous waste(s) the 24-hour HAZWOPER certification is what is called for. Ths regulation can be found in 29 CFR 1910.120 (p).
Q: What is the difference between the 40-hour certifcation, and the 24-hour certification?
A: Aside from the hourly requirement, the main difference is in the uncotrolled nature of sites that require te 40-hour certification. General industry will already have in place (or should have) many of the items that an uncontrolled site does not have. Materials, and substances are known, health and safety plans have already been developed, emergency response procedures are in place, medical surveillance has been established.
Q: What does GORHAM safety include in the 24-hour certificaion?
A: Hazard Communication (29 CFR 1910.1200) including MSDS interpretation, phyiscal and chemcial Properties of substances, physical and chemcial hazards of substances, basic toxicology, thermal stress, persoanl protective equipment selection and limitations, respiratory training, use of the Emergency Response Guide Book, as well as all other elements required by 29 CFR 1910.120 (p). Q: why are GORHAM Safety and Environmental Consulting prices so low?
A: My training has been developed after years of trial and error to determine what works best as opposed to what does not. I believe, and this is one of my guiding practices, that everyone deserves training that is not only easy to understand, but so affordable that employers can provide it to all employees without sacrificing other programs, or services.
Q: Can courses be taken online?
A: Some companies do offer online HAZWOPER training, and I find this rather distrubing. There is no substitute for a one-on-one approcach to learning that the internet just cannot provide.
Q: Is an annual refresher required for the 24-hour certification?
A: Yes. All HAZWOPER certifications (24 and 40-hour) require annual recertifications.
Q: If I received my HAZWOPER certification from another vendor, can GORHAM safety give my my recertification?
A: Yes, so long as it is within the yearly restriction.
